Mr. Stewart Harris

Suddenly on Wednesday October 2nd, 2019 in Berea, Kentucky, Mr. Stewart Harris of Grande Pointe in his 82nd year. Cherished son of the late Harry and Lenora Harris.  Beloved husband and best friend of Gloria (Shivas).  Loving and proud father of John Harris and his wife Loree Hodgson-Harris of Dover Centre, and Peter of Chatham.  Predeceased by his son Paul (2016). Cherished grandfather of Alex, Tyrus, Ryan, Anna, Victoria (Alan), Shanessa, Daniel, Sean, Morgan, and Madison.  Dear brother of Joanne MacPhail (Malcom) and Joyce Meredith.   At age 18 Stewart’s first job with the department of highways, gave him the technical civil engineering background that led him to his career in the construction industry.  Stewart became involved with the “Chatham Bldrs Exchange” – serving as a director and then in 1976 and 1977 as President.  Chatham Concrete Forming with co-worker Albert Postma was his first foray into the business world, followed by John Harris Concrete Ltd. with son John, Harris Bros Ltd. Paving and Recycling with son Peter and the purchase of White’s Construction (Thamesville) Ltd. with son Paul.  Stewart loved his work, The Toronto Maple Leaf’s, nature, and antiques.  He loved to collect “treasures” – the most valuable being the love of his life and best friend of 57 years Gloria Ann.   Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday October 11th with visiting from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home, Saturday October 12th, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Bob Barwick officiating.  Interment in Harris family plot, Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Dover Centre Church or Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
