Mrs. Jan Meko

Surrounded by loved ones, (Iona Janisse) “Jan” Meko passed away peacefully in her 89th year at Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham, on Monday, October 14th, 2019. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph Chester Crowe and Emma Beatrice (Roy) Crowe. Most beloved wife of John Meko for 63 years. Loving mother of John (Julie), Mark (Jon Ann) and Susan (Mike Korpan). Proud grandmother of John, Emily (Russell Colebrook), and Aaron Meko; Mark Meko (Abbey Haynes) and Kellen and McKenna Baldock; Kristen Korpan (Sean Dobbelaar) and Bryce Korpan (Kayla). Great grandmother of Boone Dobbelaar. Dear aunt of Brenda Hinnegan, Gail Keys, Karan Duquette, Diane Meko, and dear godmother of Sally Mihalco. Jan worked as a telephone operator for Bell Canada for 10 years before devoting over thirty years to the full-time care of her family. In later years, she worked for 15 years in the office at Western Equipment, where she was happy to contribute to the success of the family business. Jan’s primary focus was her family. She doted on her six grandchildren and tried her best to make each one feel special. Jan was a very practical person who thrived on making herself useful, but she also had a sense of humour. She enjoyed cooking, family get-togethers, and vacations in the sunny south. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and the staff of Western Equipment. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Thursday, October 17th, 2019, with visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ursula Roman Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Ave. W., Chatham, on Friday, October 18th at 10 am with Father Jim Higgins celebrant. Interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chatham. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Meadow Park Nursing Home or the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham Butterfly Building Campaign. On-line condolences may be left at  Parish prayers will held in the funeral home on Thursday at 3 pm.

Visitation:  Thursday October 17th, 2019 with visiting from 2 to 4 pm & 7 to 9 pm

Funeral Mass:  Friday October 18th, 2019 at 10 am

Interment:  St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chatham
