Ida (Van Erp) Goodreau

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ida Goodreau announce her passing on Monday December 9th, 2019 in Vancouver British Columbia after a short illness.   Beloved daughter of Helen and the late Peter Van Erp of Ridgetown.  Cherished sister of Mary Mahabir of Barbados, Gerry Anthony of Aurora, Andy Van Erp of Kettleby, Joanne Mervin and her husband Mike of Ridgetown, Helen Romao and her husband Nuno of Carnation Washington, and Dianne Millard and her husband Tom of Chatham.  Ida was an incredible aunt to Steve Mervin, Dan Mervin and his wife Sara, Sarah Lucas and her husband Mike, Lindsay Millard and her partner Nate, Carl Romao and his partner Courtney, Alanna Romao and her partner Gary, and Marilyn Romao.   A devoted great aunt to Tommy Mervin and Rory Lucas.   A special friend of Matthias Mayer.  Predeceased by her infant brother Gerard and her brother in law Tony Mahabir.  Ida’s many professional accomplishments included President and CEO of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority; Senior Vice President of Norske Skog, Norway; Managing Director of Tasman Pulp and Paper, New Zealand; President of Pulp Operations, Fletcher Challenge, Vancouver; Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Union Gas, Chatham; and Adjunct Professor of Sauder School of Business, UBC. She shared her time and talents with many corporate and nonprofit boards, including Fortis Inc., Fortis BC, Public Policy Institute, Alberta Public Labs, Streetohome Foundation, Genome BC, Genome Canada, Vancouver Foundation, Canada West Foundation, Pharmasave Drugs, UBC, and Snug Cove House on her beloved Bowen Island. She was recognized for many accomplishments; most significantly being chosen as one of “Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women” three years in a row. Ida found great satisfaction mentoring young women in both her personal and professional life and supporting her community.  Cremation has taken place.  A private family service will be held at a later date.  Family and friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider a charity of choice.  Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  On-line condolences may be left at
