Mrs. Jessie Charlton

At St. Andrew’s Residence on Sunday May 31st, 2020, Mrs. Jessie Annetta (Barber) Charlton of Chatham in her 95th year.  Cherished daughter of the late Dunlop and Florence Barber.  Born on the family farm RR#3 Tara, Ontario, on June 10th, 1925 (United Church Union Day) and was the first baby baptised in the Tara United Church.  Beloved wife and best friend of the late Doug, whom she married October 2nd, 1948.  Loving mother of Jane Coleman and her husband Kerry of Kemptville, and Kevin and his wife Annette of Chatham. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Dan (Shannon), Jeff, Paul, April (John), Amber (Johnny), and Adam (Monica), and great grandchildren Mathew, Autumn Forrest, Corabell, Audrey, Hazel, Frankie, and predeceased by great grandson Atticus.  Dear sister of Verna Fleming of Kingston.  Jessie graduated in 1946 as a R.N. from the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital.  She worked as a registered nurse for 32 years in Cobourg, Port Hope, and Chatham hospitals.  Her compassion she had for caring for others continued even after retirement.  Jessie volunteered for over 20 years with the V.O.N., palliative care, and Meals On Wheels.  She was an active and devoted member of St. Andrew’s United Church serving on the U.C.W. where she served as the Kitchen and Social Convener, was member of Pies R Us and pastoral care committee.  Jessie hobbies including crocheting, baking, cards, slots, and watching her Maple Leafs disappoint her.  Her kindness to friends will be always remembered.  A private family time will be held at the funeral home.  Interment Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara.  Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider St. Andrew’s United Church U.C.W and Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.  On-line condolences may be left at
