Mr. Robert Kornacker

On June 15th, 2020, Robert (Bob) Kornacker, passed away peacefully at the age of 80. He was surrounded with love by his wife, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and fur-grandchildren, along with a wide assortment of Detroit Tigers apparel and paraphernalia. Bob was born in Windsor to the late John and Mary Kornacker of LaSalle and was married to his love, Sharron (nee McCourt) for 53 years. They had two beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, smart, skinny, funny, kind and loving daughters (I’m sure you can guess who wrote this ): Larisa and Tanya. He believed that anyone could be a Father but it takes a special man to be a Dad. He was a special and loving Dad to Larisa and John Lyons and Tanya Kornacker. He was a fun-loving Opa (or as he would like to call himself Opa ONE-derful) to everyone but especially to Braden Turner, Mackenna, Meaghan and Carson Lyons and his favourite wanna-bes: Moose (Mitchell) Taylor and Justin Markovich. Bob was the mischievous and instigating big brother that was a loving protector to Father Bill Kornacker, Barb Lajoie (Wayne), Rosemary Payne (Levi) and Cathy Oates (John). Loving brother-in law to Patricia Holland (late Jim) and the late Laurie McCourt. He was especially fond of his Aunt Barb Geiger (John and the late Nick Geiger). He had a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins from across Canada and the United States. He was a fun loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews including Debbie (Randy), Darren, late Christine, Geoff (Tanya), Matt (Niki), Dan (Jeff) Loni (Ross), Christie, and Katie (Ryan). Bob will be missed by all of his friends who were like family to him.  Throughout his nearly 35 year career as an educator, he was a teacher, principal and coordinator. He dedicated himself to special education in his later years. He had a special gift for seeing the best qualities in people that were quite often overlooked by others. He was a teacher at Holy Angels School in St. Thomas, Holy Family School in Windsor, Holy Rosary School in Windsor, Sacred Heart Intermediate School in LaSalle, John Uyen School in  Chatham, St. Michael’s School in Ridgetown, St. Agnes in Chatham, St. Gregory School in Galt;  Principal at St. Judes School in Sandwich South, St. Gregory School in Galt and Sacred Heart School in Langton. He was the Family Life and Special Education Coordinator for the Kent County RCSSB (SCCDSB). As an active volunteer in our Catholic community, he belonged to the christian family movement and was Chairman of St. Joseph’s Parish Council, Presenter at the Ministry of the People of God, Cursillo (1st one in Kent Deanery), co-parents for the COR I, Leaders and Presenters at Marriage Encounter Weekends, Leaders and Presenters at Marriage Preparation weekends and District Deputy of Knights of Columbus and a member of the 4th degree. In retirement, he worked at the Seniors newspaper and Amazing Gifts and volunteered at Chatham Outreach for Hunger. He was the President of the Superannuated Teacher’s. The life we all lived together was filled with love, laughter, beautiful memories and of course cheering on the Detroit Tigers. Maya Angelou wrote…“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. “As I Have Loved You.” A family visitation was held on Thursday, June 18th at Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham. The funeral mass was celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, Chatham, on Friday June 19th at 11:00 am.  Cremation followed with interment Victoria Memorial Gardens, Windsor.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, Out Reach for Hunger Chatham-Kent, Canadian Food for Children C-K, or the Canadian Cancer Society.  On-line condolences may be left at www.alexanderfuneralhome.ca  

Funeral Mass: Friday June 19th at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham.

Family and friends wishing to attend the funeral mass must call the funeral home at (519) 352-2710 in advance to reserve a seat. Limited seating is available. 

All attendees as mandated by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario must wear a mask at all visitations and funeral masses.
