Mrs. Genesia Meriano

Genesia Meriano passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 at the age of 86.  Cherished daughter of the late Domenico and Carmela Sullo.  Adored by her husband, Tony Meriano for 64 years.  Survived by her daughters, Dina Meriano (John Stacey), Lisa Meriano-Gowan (Brad Gowan) and Sheila Builder (Brad Builder); pre-deceased by her angels in heaven, her daughters, Josepina Meriano and Linda Meriano- Epp (Blayne Epp/ Shauna Epp).  Nonna Gina’s fun-loving spirit will be missed by her grandsons, Hunter Gowan, Jack and Blake Builder, Lucy and Sam Epp. Predeceased by her siblings in Italy, Amelia, Antonio, and Maria Grazia.  Known to many as “Commare Genesia” and “Zia Genesia” she loved and was loved by many nieces and nephews and godchildren in Canada and Italy. Gina was a brave woman who from a young age followed her heart and her love, to be with her soulmate Tony in Canada. Together Tony and Gina started a life that would be full of family, friends and many memories that will be cherished for years.  Gina was a master tailor and dressmaker whose creativity and artistic talent shone in her other artworks: embroidery, knitting, cross stitch and her sewing. A “Nonna” to many, Gina loved to provide for her guests, family and friends with her delicious cooking which will be missed and no chef would ever be able to replicate; she was the life of the party.  A member of the Catholic Women’s League for almost 60 years, Gina’s catholic religion and commitment to her faith guided her to a life of service to traditions and celebrations in her churches in both Chatham and London. The Meriano family is grateful for the support of many family and friends who loved Gina and cared for her during the past few months; the love, comfort and support of Olive, her caregiver from Medical Priorities, and the medical attention and guidance by her family doctor who she adored, Dr. George Kim and his team, helped her to continue her fight until her journey to heaven.  A private family time will be held.  Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  Entombment Maple Leaf Mausoleum, Chatham. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Church CWL, St. George’s Church CWL, and Parkwood Institute Palliative Care Unit.  On-line condolences may be left at www.alexanderfuneralhome.ca
