Mr. Wayne Edwards

It is with great sorrow that the family announce the passing of Clifford Wayne Edwards on September 23rd, 2020, in his 94th year, at Copper Terrace Nursing Home.

He was the beloved son of the late Clifford and Beatrice (Mott) Edwards.

Wayne was best friend and cherished husband to the late Norine (Austin) Edwards (2020).

Sadly, missed by his treasured brother Gary Edwards and his wife Jackie, niece Shelley, nephews Ryan and Marc, as well as three great nephews.  Predeceased by his sister-in-law, Louise Field (Harold).

Wayne was honorary Uncle to, and adored by Elizabeth Lahey, Karen Woods, Ron Mann, Kathy Zimmer and Keri McGregor.  He was a true-hearted friend to Chris Masterson and Kathryn Vanek, and was blessed by their friendships in return.  Wayne shared a lifetime friendship with Hub Green and Fred Mann (both predeceased).

Wayne left a lasting impact on many lives in Chatham-Kent.  His true passion, besides Norine, was his volunteer contributions. He joined the St. Andrew’s United Church Choir at the age of 15, and continued to sing with them for 78 years.  Wayne was a dedicated and loyal member of the Pub Crawlers for 20 years, sharing his beautiful tenor voice and harmonica talents. For 30 years he was a member of the local Barbershop Choir; spent 20 years with “Scotty and His Friends”, and “Friends of Scotty”; also, a devoted member of the Christian Men’s Choir, Triad Plus One, the Foursome and duetted with Kathryn Vanek. Between 1995 and 2015, Wayne drove over 500 runs to London and Windsor for the Chatham-Kent Cancer Society, and he continued his community support by achieving an award for an outstanding number of donations to the Canadian Blood Services.

Wayne was a great sports enthusiast, playing football, baseball and running track and field and was also known to enjoy a round of golf.  Through Norine, he learned to love watching baseball, especially the Toronto Blue Jays, but his ultimate passion was hockey, and Wayne was an avid Red Wings fan.

His career began on the farm, working alongside his dad.  He then joined Continental Can and after 3 years moved to Canadian Fram/Canadian Filters/Siemens, retiring in 1990.

Alongside Norine, his loving wife of 68 years, he shared in their love of their family cats, cars, travel, photography, sports, games, camping, visiting their Florida home, and an ice cold “Coke”.

He will forever be remembered for his wit and charm, and the twinkle in his eye. He took great pleasure in his every involvement and in doing so, always brought joy to others.

A special thank you to the staff at St Andrew’s Residence and Copper Terrace 3 East, to his compassionate and kind-hearted PSW workers Ruth Wellman, Maegan List, Tracey Shavers-Redding, and to Mary and Brad Easter for their support.
