Dorothy Evelyn McFarlane

Dorothy Evelyn McFarlane, nee, McLennan, February 26th, 2019, at Riverview Gardens, Chatham, at 94 years of age.  Mrs. McFarlane was born in London and was a long-time resident of Cottam, Essex County, where she raised her family.  Husband, William Robert McFarlane (Bob), a manager with Ontario Hydro, predeceased in 1981.  Survived by daughter Vicki Ann Thomas and husband Bruce, Chatham, sons Robert John (Jack) and wife Patricia, Chatham, William James (Jim), Toronto, Wilfred Roderick (Rick) and wife Joan, Harrow, and Denis Alan, Windsor. Also survived by grandchildren Brendan Thomas, Meaghan Lalande and her husband Julien, Chandler Thomas and partner Kyle MacLennan, Daniel McFarlane and wife Holly, and Eryn McFarlane and husband Dave Huyben, and by three great grandchildren, Henry Lalande and Zeke and Pearl McFarlane.  Survived also by nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her sister Bernice Leach, and her good friend and card playing partner, Chris Darel.  Sincere appreciation is extended to long time family physician Dr. Childs of Essex, and to Dr. Park Parry, and the wonderful caregivers at Riverview Gardens, Chatham.  Thank you also to the Essex Windsor Emergency Medical Services Staff for their professionalism and compassion.  The family also gratefully acknowledges the staff and caregivers of the Local Integrated Health Network, Essex and Cottam neighbours and friends, with special thanks to Nikki, Lauren, Shannon, Stacey, Brenda, Charlene, Gwen and Lise for their compassion and friendship given to Dorothy.  Dorothy loved spending time with her family at the cottage on the French River and developed strong friendships with neighbours there, particularly Manny and Carol Croteau, Sudbury.  She was a passionate lover of animals and enjoyed the companionship of her cats right up until her final days.  Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.  A private family interment will take place at a future date at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society or a charity of choice.  On-line condolences may be left at
