Mary Lou Ellis

Mary Lou Ellis a resident of Chatham, but a lifelong member of Rondeau passed away with her family by her side on April 11, 2019. Lou was born November 10, 1937 to the late Frank and Catharine (Moorehouse) Day. Leaving behind with wonderful memories are her three daughters, Leanne Ellis of Edmonton, Tricia and Doc Duggan of Chatham and Kari and Ed White of Chatham. She was an awesome Nana to Tori Bartlett, Trevor Bartlett (Alexis McPhail), Andrew Bartlett (Karly McCarthy), Meghan White (Tyler Newton) and Erin White. Great Nana to Lucas Bartlett, Oakley Bartlett and Rachel Newton. Dear sister to Margaret Trimble (late William) of Cottam and Brian and Jane Day of Edmonton. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Mary Lou was a retired teacher having taught in Chatham, Toronto, Listowel, Kitchener, Ridgetown, Blenheim and Highgate. She finished her last grammar corrections on a letter earlier this week as she wanted to be an advocate for seniors who are either denied care or not properly discharged from the hospital to their home with everything they require in place. When she retired her family installed an answering machine as we could never find her at home. She took up golf, playing at Ridgetown in the Ladies 9 Hole League where she got a hole in one at age 69. She returned to curling and played at both the Ridgetown Golf & Curling Club and the Chatham Granite Club. She travelled to spend time with family in Hawaii, Palm Springs, Edmonton and took in lots of shows with friends on the RTFO bus trips. She would caution us not to call when she was playing bridge with her Brown Bag Bridge group or during book club meetings, but we were welcome to supply her with home baked goodies to share with her friends. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, as her daughters inherited her lack of a green thumb, donations in her memory are encouraged to be made to VON. Her daughters cannot say enough about the care Lou received from their staff. Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.
